Ingredients

  • 2.5 lbs (about 5 cups) Russet potatoes peeled and cut into chunks
  • 4 cloves garlic peeled and roasted
  • 1/2 cup whole milk warmed
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream warmed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 tsp kosher Salt
  • 1 tsp fresh Ground Black Pepper
  • chopped fresh parsley for garnish optional

Instructions

Prepare the Potatoes:

  • Peel the potatoes and cut them into evenly sized chunks to ensure even cooking.

Roast the Garlic:

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Wrap the garlic cloves in aluminum foil and roast in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes or until they become soft and golden. Allow them to cool.

Boil the Potatoes:

  • Place the potato chunks in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add a pinch of salt.
  • Bring the water to a boil and cook the potatoes until fork-tender, approximately 15-20 minutes.
  • Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot.
  • Mash the potatoes using a potato masher or a ricer until smooth.

Prepare the Garlic:

  • Squeeze the roasted garlic cloves out of their skins and mash them into a paste using the back of a fork.

Combine Ingredients:

  • Incorporate the roasted garlic paste, softened butter, and warm milk into the mashed potatoes. Mix until well combined and creamy.
  • Season the mashed potatoes with salt and black pepper to taste. Adjust the seasoning as needed.
  • Transfer the creamy garlic mashed potatoes to a serving bowl.
  • Optionally, garnish with chopped fresh parsley for a burst of color and added flavor.

Notes

  • For an extra layer of richness, you can substitute some or all of the milk with heavy cream or sour cream.
  • If you prefer a stronger garlic flavor, you can roast additional garlic cloves and adjust according to your taste.
  • To keep the mashed potatoes warm, cover the bowl with foil or place it over a pot of warm water until ready to serve.
